Stained glass has always been an artform which necessitates genuine collaboration between artist and client, with the architecture bringing considerable inspiration and direction from the outset. When using coloured glass in any building we are also working with light and understanding how any given light effects the space is key to success in architectural glass design. I work to bring out the best in every situation, ensuring you acquire a unique, timeless artwork of meaning and beauty.

Luminous radiant colour and exquisite texture is the essence of mouth blown glass, which is at its most dazzling when seen with natural light. I pick the finest, strongest handmade glass in the world Lamberts of Germany being my preference. Lamberts makes an extensive range of colours, or can make glass colours to specification. All other materials required in my projects are the very best and selected for their strength, durability and aesthetic beauty.

Like any structural element of a building architectural glass must be made to withstand all kinds of extreme weather conditions; direct prolonged heat, torrential rain, gale force winds and gravity. I learned to prioritize safety standards and longevity at all stages of design, construction and installation while working in England. Safety is integral and standard practice for every project and is considered and addressed at every stage of the build.

Stained glass restoration & conservation

Stained glass that has been designed, built and secured in place professionally should last well for up to 100+ years depending on weather exposure. Climate extremes and the building’s integrity also all have a bearing on this. You can see from 18-19th Century British stained glass, very experienced artists and craftsmen knew how to build the glass to be strong and stand against the elements. If your valuable stained glass needs care and attention, you should seek expert advice.

I can assess the age and condition of your glass, explain what is happening and why, outlining the best options including costs. If total restoration is necessary, windows will be strengthened and areas of vulnerability fixed and improved in the process. Please feel welcome to contact me from any country if you have questions regarding restoration or conservation and I will be happy to advise you. For ecclesiastical stained glass that is more than 150 years old (Europe and UK), please visit www.corpusvitrearum.org for specialist advice and helpful contacts.
